Agni-V: China says India underplaying Agni, it can hit Europe

Beijing: Chinese strategic experts and the media are trying to provoke the Western countries said the Agni-V missile has a longer range than India should recognize, and it can hit cities in Europe.

It quoted a scientist, Du Wenlong, saying the Indian government had deliberately underestimate the missile's ability to avoid concerns over other countries.
"According to the Chinese standard, the ICBM in the range of 8,000 kilometers. Range Agni-V, could be further enhanced to get the ICBM," the paper quoted another expert, Zhang Zhaozhong, a professor with the People's Liberation Army National Defence University, said.
However, some Chinese experts have raised questions in New Delhi's ability to actually use the missile.
"India does not posses high-precision guidance system. To make up for shortfalls, it has to buy the U.S. and Russia. These counties do not want to sell their most advanced technology," the official China Central Television quoted some experts said.
CCTV even questioned India's infrastructure capabilities. "The missile weighs 50 tons. This is not the appropriate vehicle to carry the load. Thanks to India's poor infrastructure, the bridges and roads can not be rocket weight." "So far, only launched in a fixed position. Although it was successful, it takes a long time to build an operational missile force," he said.
Global Times in an interview with Zhang suggested Agni-V, would increase India's regional power in the world. China should work in developing countries against the risk of ballistic missile defense systems. Agni-V by itself does not take advantage of China's domination of this technology, Zhang said. "But in the interests of regional stability, China should continue to develop defense systems against ballistic missiles," he said.
