A lawyer representing the victims' families complained Wednesday in the investigation of the missing women that there are now so many legal representative of the entire police probe into the shortcomings of the inquiry into serial killer Robert Pickton may be "derailed."
Cameron Ward, representing 25 families of murdered women, noted that there are now 19 lawyers representing the interests of police officers.
"The public interest is not served if the public is paying for all these lawyers," Ward said Wally Oppal Inquiry Commissioner.
Ward said police were "right up at this late stage" and suggested it was a calculated strategy by the police in Vancouver RCMP to "derail" the process of investigation. " There is no legitimate reason for lawyers to be out of the woodwork now, "Ward said of the investigation, which began hearings on October 11.
He made the remarks at David Neave said he was in the investigation on behalf of former Vancouver police inspector. Fred Biddlecombe, who was in charge of a serious crime in 1998 and rejected the theory that a serial killer was behind the disappearance of 27 women from this point. Oppal, however, said that it should be fair and allow Biddlecombe to have a lawyer in the survey.
"If I had my way we would not have lawyers here and we would get done faster," joked Oppal.
Neave said he wants to present testimony on the stand, the former leader Kim Rossmo VPD, the return at a later date to against-examination.
Tim Dickson, representing the Vancouver Police Department, disputed the allegation that the SPV Ward tried to derail the investigation process.
"Nothing could be further from the truth," added the lawyer.
Biddlecombe retained counsel after the testimony of Rossmo, who wanted to give a public warning in 1998 that a serial killer was possible to prey on women in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
Rossmo testified Biddlecombe had a "hissy fit" and kiboshed the idea at a meeting September 22, 1998.
"The community should have been warned," Rossmo testified Wednesday. He said Biddlecombe negative attitude is - he was angry and felt that there was no evidence to support the theory serial killer - actually killed a VPD "working group , "which included Rossmo, who was trying to address the problem of a growing number of missing women.
Rossmo, an internationally renowned expert in the crime series, at the time was the first police officer in Canada with a doctorate in criminology.
Rossmo is now a professor at Texas State University, where he is Director of Geospatial Intelligence and Investigation.
