The war between the government and stakeholders on the legal integrity of the British Columbia courts is becoming more accessible and more acrimonious.
Lawyers across the province are sporting light blue ribbons on their robes as a sign of today they have become "soldiers in the battle for legal aid."
They will rally outside the courthouse many scoring campaign at noon.
In January, the lawyers will intensify the protests against provincial underfunding of the legal system by withdrawing counsel.
On hand in the palace to provide rapid assistance to the poor, the counsel will not be available for one week in January, two weeks in February, three weeks in March and all April.
The job action lawyers, however, will only exacerbate the already overcrowded court system and strained provincial, where it takes too long to process cases.
In March, six of 10 adult criminal cases pending before the Provincial Court were in the completion of 180 days online guide proposed by the Supreme Court of Canada. Some 15 percent of these cases have been pending for more than 18 months.
The bar and the bench have been quietly feuding with Victoria for years and the conflict is a major reason for the attorney general's office was a revolving door. Without more money, British Columbia courts facing similar difficulties, Bauman warned, and the sys-tem could be irreparably damaged if the government does not act.
In particular, the Trial Lawyers Association, said a decade of severe cuts to legal aid has had a significant impact and far too many people in need do not receive help.

Earlier this year, Vancouver lawyer Len Doust issued a report saying that tens of millions of dollars were needed to resuscitate the patient simply legal aid system.

Lawyers in some places in the province have made withdrawals of similar services, but they had little effect.
The crux of the problem is that there is no single solution to the problems facing the legal system - there must be a basket of solutions that include procedural changes, wage freeze for some and more money for other.
The defense lawyers, for example, is angry because they did not have legal assistance re-raise to 20 years - in fact, they complain that, between 1999 and 2005 the rate was lowered from $ 80 to $ 72 an hour. At the same time, however, judges and the salaries of Crown counsel have all increased dramatically.
New administration of Prime Minister Christy Clark is struggling with its finances and there is also a cry for more funding for health, education and social services.
With only a limited pot, if you decide to give more money to lawyers and judges or crippled children, which would you choose?
