DHAKA, Nov 4 (bdnews24.com) - Pro-government lawyers have removed portraits of former president Ziaur Rahman, Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani and Gen. MAG Osmani Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President of the room.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, less than two hours after the portraits were put up.
SCBA president Khandakar Mahbub Hossain, and affiliated companies, put up portraits of approximately 12:45 on Sunday. But the Awami League-backed lawyers barge in his office by breaking the back door, about fourteen, and remove the portraits of the wall.
Kandakar Mahbub is also advisor to BNP chief Khaleda Zia.
Sunday's event followed a decision during the SCBA's Annual General Meeting November 17 to put up portraits of Maulana Bhasani, Osman, and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman is the Chairman and the Secretary of the Association offices. Portraits were to commemorate their contribution to the Liberation War.
But even before its implementation, the decision had triggered the dispute, and the Supreme Court increased the tension between lawyers because of allegiance to the opposition BNP and their support for the ruling party
Photos of the trio was hanged Mahbub room after the parade in support of BNP was implemented-to-dawn strike on Sunday evening. Among the present occasion were the Secretary General of SCBA Mohammad Badruddoza Badal, his predecessor, Jainul Abedin and BNP standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Mia.
Pro-Awami League lawyers Mahbub was demonstrated in front of the room and shouted slogans against the artificial putting up portraits of the Supreme Court premises.
Bangabandhu Lawyers Association Secretary Layekuzzaman Molla, joint secretary Fazlur Rahman Khan, Deputy Attorneys General Mohammad Selim and Motahar Hossain Saju were present for the presentation.
Pictures were hung on the wall facing a portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Group of pro-BNP lawyers gathered in front of the room after hearing the news and started to shout pro-hartal slogans. Soon the group of pro-government lawyers broke the back door of the room and remove the portraits.
Both groups of lawyers have accused each other resulting chaos.
